DOE Publishes Proposed Rule
Seeking Changes to Manufactured Housing Furnaces
The Department of Energy (DOE) has published a proposed rule outlining energy conservation standards for non-weatherized gas furnaces and mobile home gas furnaces. As currently written, the proposed rule would require a 95 percent AFUE furnace for manufactured homes and mandate compliance five years after publication of the final rule in the Federal Register. The proposed changes could hinder the resale and replacement market for 80 percent AFUE furnaces. MHI is working with its members to gather feedback on the proposed rule and will submit official comments.
