In April 2023, 6,676 new manufactured homes were produced, a decrease of 970 homes or 12.7 percent compared to March 2023, and a decrease of 3,489 homes or 34.3 percent compared to April 2022. MHI's Monthly Economic Report includes numbers for both manufactured home production and shipments. The difference between the two is attributed to the number of homes that have been produced, but their destinations are pending. There were no FEMA designated units produced in April 2023.
The number of plants reporting production in April 2023 was 147 and the number of active corporations was 35, the same number of corporations yet one more plant than in the prior month.
In April 2023, 6,654 new manufactured homes were shipped, a decrease of 1,011 homes or 13.2 percent compared to March 2023, and a decrease of 3,514 homes or 34.6 percent compared to April 2022. Compared with the same month last year, shipments of both single-section and multi-section homes were down, by 37.4 percent and 32.2 percent, respectively. Total floors shipped in April 2023 were 10,441, a decrease of 5,349 floors or 33.9 percent compared with the same month last year.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 82,146 in April 2023, up 1.9 percent compared to the adjusted rate of 80,636 in March 2023. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
Cumulative shipments through April this year totaled 27,816 homes compared with 39,821 homes for the same four months of 2022, a net decrease of 30.1 percent.
