In February 2023, 6,577 new manufactured homes were produced, a decrease of 374 homes or 5.4 percent compared to January 2023, and a decrease of 2,704 homes or 29.1 percent compared to February 2022. MHI's Monthly Economic Report includes numbers for both manufactured home production and shipments. The difference between the two is attributed to the number of homes that have been produced, but their destinations are pending. There were no FEMA designated units produced in February 2023.
The number of plants reporting production in February 2023 was 146 and the number of active corporations was 35, one more plant and one more corporation than in the prior month.
In February 2023, 6,564 new manufactured homes were shipped, a decrease of 369 homes or 5.3 percent compared to January 2023, and a decrease of 2,711 homes or 29.2 percent compared to February 2022. Compared with the same month last year, shipments of both single-section and multi-section homes were down, by 27.4 percent and 30.6 percent, respectively. Total floors shipped in February 2023 were 10,290, a decrease of 4,351 floors or 29.7 percent compared with the same month last year.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 82,863 in February 2023, down 1.8 percent compared to the adjusted rate of 84,340 in January 2023. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
Cumulative shipments through February this year totaled 13,497 homes compared with 18,385 homes for the same two months of 2022, a net decrease of 26.6 percent.
