Compared to the National Numbers

In July 2022, 8,050 new manufactured homes were produced, a decrease of 3,323 homes or 29.2 percent compared to June 2022, and an increase of 486 homes or 6.4 percent compared to July 2021. MHI's Monthly Economic Report includes numbers for both manufactured home production and shipments. The difference between the two is attributed to the number of homes that have been produced, but their destinations are pending. There were 54 FEMA designated units produced in July 2022, whereas no FEMA units were produced in July last year.

The number of plants reporting production in July 2022 was 143 and the number of active corporations was 35, the same number of plants and corporations as in the prior month.

In July 2022, 8,043 new manufactured homes were shipped, a decrease of 3,329 homes or 29.3 percent compared to June 2022, and an increase of 479 homes or 6.3 percent compared to July 2021. Compared with the same month last year, shipments of single-section and multi-section homes were both up, by 14.7 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively. Total floors shipped in July 2022 were 12,644, an increase of 4.1 percent compared with the same month last year.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 118,057 in July 2022, down 8.2 percent compared to the adjusted rate of 128,584 in June 2022. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.

Cumulative shipments for January through July this year totaled 69,693 homes compared with 61,326 homes for the same seven months of 2021, a net increase of 13.6 percent.
