In May 2023, 7,898 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 1,244 homes or 18.7 percent compared to April 2023, and a decrease of 2,559 homes or 24.5 percent compared to May 2022. Compared with the same month last year, shipments of both single-section and multi-section homes were down, by 27.1 percent and 22.1 percent, respectively. Total floors shipped in May 2023 were 12,223, a decrease of 3,788 floors or 23.7 percent compared with the same month last year.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 88,105 in May 2023, up 7.3 percent compared to the adjusted rate of 82,146 in April 2023. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.

Cumulative shipments through May this year totaled 35,714 homes compared with 50,278 homes for the same five months of 2022, a net decrease of 29.0 percent.

In May 2023, 7,869 new manufactured homes were produced, an increase of 1,193 homes or 17.9 percent compared to April 2023, yet a decrease of 2,582 homes or 24.7 percent compared to May 2022. MHI's Monthly Economic Report includes numbers for both manufactured home production and shipments. The difference between the two is attributed to the number of homes that have been produced, but their destinations are pending. There were no FEMA designated units produced in May 2023.

The number of plants reporting production in May 2023 was 147 and the number of active corporations was 35, the same number of plants and corporations as in the prior month.
