Compared to the National Trend

In August 2022, 10,722 new manufactured homes were produced, an increase of 2,672 homes or 33.2 percent compared to July 2022, and an increase of 1,635 homes or 18.0 percent compared to August 2021. MHI's Monthly Economic Report includes numbers for both manufactured home production and shipments. The difference between the two is attributed to the number of homes that have been produced, but their destinations are pending. There were 236 FEMA designated units produced in August 2022, whereas no FEMA units were produced in August last year.

The number of plants reporting production in August 2022 was 144 and the number of active corporations was 35, the same number of corporations yet one more plant than in the prior month.

In August 2022, 10,715 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 2,672 homes or 33.2 percent compared to July 2022, and an increase of 1,628 homes or 17.9 percent compared to August 2021. Compared with the same month last year, shipments of single-section and multi- section homes were both up, by 29.7 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively. Total floors shipped in August 2022 were 16,486, an increase of 14.6 percent compared with the same month last year.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 118,237 in August 2022, up 0.2 percent compared to the adjusted rate of 118,057 in July 2022. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.

Cumulative shipments for January through August this year totaled 80,408 homes compared with 70,413 homes for the same eight months of 2021, a net increase of 14.2 percent.
