In August 2023, 8,661 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 2,517 homes or 41.0 percent compared to July 2023, and a decrease of 2,054 homes or 19.2 percent compared to August 2022. Compared with the same month last year, shipments of both single-section and multisection homes were down by 17.9 percent and 20.3 percent, respectively. Total floors shipped in August 2023 were 13,256, a decrease of 3,230 floors or 19.6 percent compared with the same month last year.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 92,105 in August 2023, up 3.6 percent compared to the adjusted rate of 88,920 in July 2023. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.

Cumulative shipments through August this year totaled 58,698 homes compared with 80,408 homes for the same eight months of 2022, a net decrease of 27.0 percent.

In August 2023, 8,670 new manufactured homes were produced, an increase of 2,536 homes or 41.3 percent compared to July 2023, yet a decrease of 2,052 homes or 19.1 percent compared to August 2022. MHI's Monthly Economic Report includes numbers for both manufactured home production and shipments. The difference between the two is attributed to the number of homes that have been produced, but their destinations are pending. Of the homes produced, 455 were FEMA designated units for Alabama.

The number of plants reporting production in August 2023 was 146 and the number of active corporations was 35, one additional plant and corporation compared to the prior month.
